Meat with Nails found in Cedarvale Park

We’ve received notice from a few individuals in the park (and it’s now on the news as well) that on Sunday morning a person walking their dog came across some meat that had nails in it.

This was found on the path leading down into the ravine from the park towards the Glen Cedar bridge.

The police have been alerted to this.

We advise all dog owners in the park to take extra caution when in the park and be on the look out for any suspicious “stuff” on the ground. If you come across anything like this please notify authorities immediately.

2 Bags Full

Despite the rain a couple of CDOA members ventured out into the OLA on Sunday and picked up 2 bags of trash. Surprisingly there was little dog waste in the OLA that day! Good for everyone. Just wondered where everyone was…

Upcoming Events in Ward 21

Well, even though it’s snowing out there today, everyone’s thoughts are turning to spring, and that means various events in our community are being planned.

The CDOA is hoping to take an active role at as many events as possible to increase awareness of the OLA and support the community at large.

Watch the site here for updates.

The two events that we’re planning to be at right now are:

Cedarvale Spring Clean Up Day
April 26th – starting at 9.00am with people meeting under Cedarvale foot bridge.

Ward 21 Environment Day
May 3rd – 10.00am to 2.00pm at the Artscape Wychwood Barns. We’ll be there along with the Hillcrest Dog Owners’ Association!

Cedarvale OLA Vandalized

On Saturday night a group held a late night bush party in the park at the south end of the Off Leash Area. This resulted in some significant damage to the fencing along the top of the south hill. Luckily the wooden rails and posts were not damaged but a significant portion of the mesh fencing was torn out and damaged beyond repair.

We’re reported this to the City and asked that it repaired as soon as possible and are waiting for a response on exactly when this will be done.

This also raises an important security question which we have repeatedly raised with the City over the past year. The location of the OLA has no lighting at all and abuts a wooded section of the park that has always been popular with the after dark beer in the park crowd. We will be ramping up this issue with the City and are currently working on our own (solar) lighting proposal to bring forward – it’s obvious that we can’t wait for the City take up this issue so we must be evermore proactive ourselves.

Dog Found on Strathearn Rd.

(This via an email we received today from a good Samaritan):

I found a dog today about 4:45 p.m. on Strathearn Road. He is a very cute, friendly collie cross. He is beige and white. He had no tags so I took him to The Rosdedale Animal Hospital where they checked to see if had a microchip but he did not. I left him there in good care.

I registered this on The Toronto Humane Society Lost and Found.

If you hear of anyone looking for this sweet dog please could you direct them there?

Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore in Cedarvale

Julianne Moore and her dogIn case any of you are interested, the movie trucks you see in the park and on Heathdale Rd is for an Atom Egoyan film called Chloe, starring Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. According to this paparazzi website, Julianne was on set last Wednesday (damn, I walked the dog through the film set that afternoon and missed her) and Liam is supposed start shooting there this week.

Get your camera phones out. Maybe Julianne brought her dog along and needs to run him in our OLA? :-)

Public Meeting - March 11th

The CDOA has arranged a meeting to be held at:

Wychwood Barns Gallery (Barn 1)
Wednesday, March 11th
7:00pm
(Please use the entrance off of Wychwood Ave)

Here’s a map

The purpose of this meeting will be to bring ideas together from the dog owner community and then establish two groups to move forward. The first group will be responsible for distilling community input and developing a physical plan for the area. The second group will focus on fundraising activities. There is certainly potential for the City to come forward with money for these projects however concerted community effort to raise funds will make this process easier.

Note: There is NO PARKING on the Barns site. There is Green P parking on the north side of St. Clair Ave W. and some residential street parking allowed. The Barns is about an eight minute walk from St Clair West TTC station and the St. Clair bus stops at Wychwood and the Christie bus lets you off at the western side of the Barns on Christie.

Cedarvale Dogs Dinner

Dogs Dinner FlyerA fellow Cedarvale dog owner has started a monthly dinner night for all of us to get together outside of the park and enjoy each other’s company over a darn fine dinner at The Rosedale Diner. Come on out and spend some time with your 2-legged friends from the park. The next dinner takes place on March 10th Rosedale Diner. Please RSVP Stephen Shannan at sshannan@mac.com.

This will become a monthly tradition so if you can’t make the next one, there will be one in April. Check back for more details.
